The Arts
Under Target 4, the Arts Committee of the Xi Zeta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® creates resources each month and shares them with the public to highlight key periods identified by the Excellence Administration: the Harlem Renaissance and the Black Arts Movement. The Target 1: HBCU for Life: A Call to Action and Target 4: The Arts! Committees have compiled historically black college and university (HBCU) profiles geared to prospective college applicants. We also feature HBCU art museums or collections housed on those respective campuses. These HBCU museums contain beautiful pieces from around the world, detailing the history of people of African descent, women, civil rights movements, and more!
We produce Harlem Renaissance profiles on key artists, writers, activists, and thinkers of the Harlem Renaissance. Lesser known but very interesting facts are found on those pages. In partnership with Signature Theatre, our Arts Committee created the Arts Career Exploration Series (ACES) to expose young people to artistic careers, often behind the scenes. Be sure to read the profiles and learn about ways to be successful in an arts career.
These resources are made possible by the support of The Ivy Foundation and our Arts partner, Signature Theatre.
The 2022 Youth Arts Contest is virtual and open to students in grades 9 through 12. Click here for details.
